Welcome to the world of Bollywood Movies

At the centre of the Indian movie industry is Mumbai based Bollywood, the home of the legendary Bollywood movie. Such is the demand for this type of film that Bollywood produces over one thousand one hundred films every single year. Primarily understood to be the home of Hindi cinema, this centre of excellence employs over a million people who speak everything from Hindi through to the Queens English.  

Twenty to thirty years ago Mumbai was not actually the only centre of production for Bollywood Movies. In fact you may be surprised to hear that they where shot in lots of different regions around India including Kashmir, Shimla, Dehradum and Jaipur. Nowadays the Bollywood industry whilst located in mainly in Mumbai actually uses film locations around the world including the USA, Canada and Europe.

Interestingly the very first silent movie to come from Bollywood was made in 1913 and was called Raja Harish Chandra, sound was included in a movie eighteen years later called Alam Ara it proved to be a massive hit, drawing huge crowds eager to hear the very first Bollywood talky.

These early Bollywood blockbusters where made on an absolute shoe-string. In fact with ultra low budgets producers at the time had to be extremely creative and smart in order to create the effects and sets required to tell the story.

It is a completely different story these days of course. This multi billion dollar industry has made many a Bollywood producer extremely rich. Of course the same can be said for the top Indian film stars who make millions of dollars every year. So lucrative is the industry that film production experts are drawn from all over the world.

So what are the key ingredients of a successful Bollywood hit movie? Well for a start you are always going to need a generous helping of music and songs. In fact a classic Hindi film will always include singing, dancing, complex love plots, humour and who can forget those all action fights. A hint of romance, forbidden sex and lots of kissing are sure to draw love struck women viewers
